Azamara unveils details of Cuba cruise

Azamara Quest due to start cruise’s from Cuba.

Azamara Club Cruises will make an overnight stay in Havana on its March 21 departure of the Azamara Quest from Miami, taking advantage of newly granted permission by the Cuban government.

The 12-day cruise will also call in Key West, Tampa and Cozumel and spend two nights in New Orleans.

The cruise opened for booking on Dec. 9, with prices starting at $2,799 per person.

Azamara said that in time, it looks to add more ports of call in Cuba into several of its itineraries.

Carnival Miracle joins Splendor at Tampa

Carnival Cruise Line said it will deploy a second ship year-round from Tampa, designating the Carnival Miracle for seven-night Caribbean cruises from the port, starting in 2018.

Also, Carnival said it will put a bigger and newer ship, the Carnival Splendor, in Long Beach to do seven-night Mexican Riviera cruises.

The 2,124-passenger Miracle will join the Carnival Paradise in Tampa and will do extended stays in Cozumel, along with a broader array of excursions there.

The 3,006-passenger Splendor will replace the Carnival Miracle, joining the Carnival Inspiration and Carnival Imagination in Long Beach, where Carnival is in the process of expanding its terminal.

The Splendor will sail a 13-day Panama Canal cruise departing Miami on Jan. 14, 2018, and become the first Carnival ship to use the new locks opened this year.

Carnival said the Splendor will also sail two 14-night round trip Hawaii cruises in 2018 from Long Beach.

Carnival negotiating return to Mobile

Carnival Cruise Line confirmed that it is in final negotiations for a resumption of cruises from Mobile, Alabama.

In a statement, Carnival said officials met with Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson on Sept. 2 in Miami.

“We are in the final stages of contract negotiations with the City of Mobile for future cruises from the port,” the statement said. “We expect this process to be concluded by the end of the month.”

Carnival operated at Mobile from 2004 through 2011, occupying a $28 million terminal that has gone largely unused since it departed four years ago.

At the time, Carnival cited prices that were lower than achieved at other ports for the pullout. Carnival also has Gulf Coast cruises that depart from Galveston, New Orleans and Tampa.

No other cruise line stepped in to take Carnival’s place in Mobile after it left.

In a press conference, Stimpson said Mobile is not negotiating with any other cruise operators.
