New branding for P&O Cruises Australia

‘Like No Place on Earth’ is how P&O Cruises Australia will promote its fleet which will grow to five ships in November next year with the addition of Holland America Line’s Ryndam and Statendam to be renamed Pacific Eden and Pacific Aria.

New branding for P&O Cruises AustraliaSnr vp Tammy Marshall said the heavenly, otherworldly theme captures the essence of sea holidays where passengers are whisked away to another world.

Marshall said company research shows consumers want to know there will be plenty of choice on their holiday.

‘We think this new direction achieves that,’ she said. ‘It is sophisticated, a little sassy and conjures feelings of escape, freedom and space with an element of luxury.’

She said while the latest cruise industry statistics show Australians and New Zealanders are leading the world in terms of cruise passenger growth, there are still many people who haven’t cruised.

‘With this fresh, contemporary repositioning, we’re looking to remind our existing loyal customers how wonderful a holiday at sea is, whilst also attracting new cruise guests,’ she said.

‘The wealth of choice on a P&O Cruises’ holiday means you can experience modern cuisine, exciting entertainment and unparalleled destinations — it really is like no place on earth.’

Guide to the New Ship Builds

What’s next from the world’s largest cruise lines? Below is our annual list of ocean-going ships on order for major brands such as Carnival and Royal Caribbean, updated to include details of two new vessels recently announced by MSC Cruises.

As in the past, we include only ships from lines that market to North Americans, leaving out such operators as Germany-based Aida Cruises, which caters to the German-speaking market. We also have left off river cruise ships on order (stay tuned for a separate update on the topic).

For the coming year, the big story in cruise-ship building is the development of Quantum of the Seas, the first of a new class of vessel for Royal Caribbean that will boast several groundbreaking features. Also notable are the first ships from new linesPearl Seas Cruises and Viking Ocean Cruises (click through the carousel above for artist’s drawings of all three vessels as well as others on order).

Among the most complex traveling machines built by man, ocean-going cruise ships take years to construct, so any new orders placed in the coming months likely won’t be filled until 2017 at the earliest. We’ll continue to update this page as new orders are announced.

Volendam to get lanai staterooms

By Tom Stieghorst
Holland America Line said its 1,432-passenger Volendam will have 21 of its cabins converted to lanai staterooms during a drydock in December.

The lanai cabins feature large sliding-glass doors with direct access to the lower promenade wraparound teak walking deck. They come with reserved deck chairs and a one-way mirrored coating on the sliding-glass doors to ensure privacy.

In addition, Volendam’s bars will be reconfigured to feature Mix, a space that incorporates three specialty theme bars: Martinis, Champagne and Spirits & Ales.

During the drydock, all suite bathrooms will be updated to feature new whirlpool bathtubs, stone vanities, lighted mirrors, Grohe fixtures, floors, walls and sinks.

Several additional categories, including the lanai staterooms, will receive new bathroom appointments and walk-in showers.
