Royal Caribbean discounts shore excursions in promotion

Royal Caribbean International said shore excursions booked this weekend will be discounted by up to $150, in celebration of a new initiative.

The line has reorganized its 2,800 shore excursions into seven themed groupings: Active Adventures, Family Connections, Royal Tour Challenge, Culture and Sights, Culinary Delights, Caring Discoveries, and the Royal Premium Tour Collection.

Royal Caribbean said that excursion bookings from Aug. 14 through Aug. 16 for sailings departing after Sept. 13 will be entitled to an onboard credit for shore excursions of $75 per stateroom for interior and oceanview cabins and $150 per stateroom for balconies and suites. The offer applies to cruises of five nights or longer.

The offer excludes China departures and Ovation of the Seas sailings departing Dec. 15, 2016, to Jan. 23, 2017.

The Cruise Ship Orderbook page is now updated through 2022 on CruiseIndustryNews.com.

The updated page reflects all known ship orders through 2022, including Carnival Corporation’s recent nine-ship order, along with a fourth Quantum-class vessel for Royal Caribbean.

The update also includes deployment announcements as well as delivery changes, such as the Viking Sky being pushed back to 2017.

Royal Caribbean raises gratuity by 8%

Royal Caribbean International plans to raise the suggested daily gratuity amount on its cruises from $12 to $12.95 per person.

Gratuities at the suggested amounts are automatically posted to a passenger’s shipboard account, but can be adjusted at guest services.

The 8% increase on standard cabins is scheduled to go into effect June 1. Booked passengers can lock in the old rate by pre-paying gratuities by that time.

In a post on its agent site, LoyaltoYouAlways.com, Royal Caribbean said the suggested gratuity for suite guests is being raised from $14.25 to $15.95.

Royal Caribbean last raised its suggested tip amount in February 2013, from $11.65 to $12.
