Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, received new restaurants, suites and public spaces in its first major drydock since its debut in 2010.

New restaurants include Izumi Hibachi & Sushi, a “re-imagined” version of Royal Caribbean’s Izumi Japanese restaurant, and Sabor Taqueria & Tequila, its modern Mexican concept.

Also new is Coastal Kitchen, the restaurant reserved for suite guests on Royal Caribbean’s newer ships.

Royal Caribbean said it has added 10 new suites to Allure, with views of the aft Aqua Theater and Boardwalk neighborhood. They include two new Royal suites, six Grand suites and two Royal Family suites. Guests will have access to a new Suite Lounge and a new sun deck area both exclusive to suite passengers.

Allure also got new shops including Kate Spade New York and Michael Kors.

The ship will sail in Europe from Barcelona through November, when it will return to Fort Lauderdale.

Royal Caribbean raises gratuity by 8%

Royal Caribbean International plans to raise the suggested daily gratuity amount on its cruises from $12 to $12.95 per person.

Gratuities at the suggested amounts are automatically posted to a passenger’s shipboard account, but can be adjusted at guest services.

The 8% increase on standard cabins is scheduled to go into effect June 1. Booked passengers can lock in the old rate by pre-paying gratuities by that time.

In a post on its agent site, LoyaltoYouAlways.com, Royal Caribbean said the suggested gratuity for suite guests is being raised from $14.25 to $15.95.

Royal Caribbean last raised its suggested tip amount in February 2013, from $11.65 to $12.

Oasis of the Seas to have new Florida home

For the first time, an Oasis-class ship will be based in a port other than Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. The Oasis of the Seas will remain in Florida but sail from Port Canaveral for the 2016-17 winter season, Royal Caribbean revealed on Thursday.

The Oasis of the Seas, which entered service in 2009, will alternate seven-day eastern and western Caribbean itineraries from Port Canaveral.

The Harmony of the Seas, an Oasis-class ship currently under construction, will take Oasis of the Seas’ place in Port Everglades, sailing from the Fort Lauderdale port along with sister ship Allure of the Seas.

Royal Caribbean announced the cruise line’s entire Caribbean deployment for the 2016-17 winter season, which will open for booking this month.
