Carnival Cruise Line to boost fleet with two more ships

One of the vessels is an Excel-class ship that had previously been assigned to sister line AIDA Cruises that will arrive in late 2023, as well as taking ownership of Costa Magica from another of its European sister lines. Costa Magica will go through a drydock, renaming and Carnival-branded conversion before joining the fleet in mid-2022.

These two ships are in addition to the new capacity growth represented by Mardi Gras, Carnival’s first Excel-class, LNG-powered ship which starts sailing from Port Canaveral on 31 July and its sister ship Carnival Celebration, which will be delivered and sail from Miami starting late-2022, as part of Carnival’s 50th birthday festivities.

The addition of these four ships will bring the Carnival fleet to 27 by year-end 2023. The cruise line said these ships “bring many new amenities and features for guests, as well as environmental benefits and enhancements as Carnival continues to exceed and expand targets for emissions efficiencies”.

“We are excited about these additions to our fleet which reflect the strong position Carnival has established in the US, the pent-up demand we continue to see for cruise vacations, and the overall plans by Carnival Corp to optimise capacity and growth in key markets,” said Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy.

“While our immediate focus is on our restart of guest operations this summer, this is another cause for excitement at Carnival, and we will be announcing more detailed plans about homeports, itineraries and ship names very soon.”

CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE TAKES DELIVERY OF MARDI GRAS

Carnival Cruise Line has taken delivery of its new ship Mardi Gras, which is due to enter service in April 2021.

The LNG powered ship will feature Bolt, which Carnival claims will be will the “rollercoaster at sea”.

Venues, restaurants and entertainment options will be dispersed throughout Mardi Gras’s six distinct zones.

The ship’s centrepiece will be its three-deck-high atrium with floor-to-ceiling windows and movable LED screens that open to reveal an ocean view.

It will be able to accommodate 5,200 guests and 2,000 crew, with guests able to choose from 11 categories of stateroom and suite.

Mardi Gras will depart Turku in Finland later this month before heading to North America.

It will initially operate seven-day Caribbean itineraries from Port Canaveral, with its inaugural fixed for 24 April 2021.

“Notwithstanding the delays related to the pandemic, there is tremendous enthusiasm and pent-up demand for this ship,” said Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy.

“Next we will work on the development of her sister ship, Carnival Celebration, which arrives in 2022 and has sold very well since inventory opened in October.”

Southampton debut planned for new Carnival Cruise Line ship

Bookings have opened for Carnival Cruise Line’s newest ship Carnival Celebration to enter service in 2022.
The vessel will make its debut with a 14-day transatlantic crossing from Southampton on November 6, arriving in Miami on November 20.
The 5,374-passenger capacity ship set to enter service as part of the company’s 50th-anniversary celebrations which kick-off in March 2022.
The inaugural two-week sailing from Southampton will include calls at La Coruna, Vigo, Funchal in Maderia and Tenerife.
Carnival Celebration, a sister to the line’s first XL-class ship Mardi Gras, will then run year-round Caribbean sailings from Miami.
The new-build will match Mardi Gras with six themed zones and be the second ship to feature onboard rollercoaster, Bolt.
The addition of Carnival Celebration will maintain Miami’s position as the top embarkation port for Carnival Cruise Line.
Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy said: “Carnival Celebration promises to be a spectacular addition to our fleet – just in time for our 50th birthday – and we’ve put together a terrific array of itineraries kicking off with a two-week-long inaugural transatlantic cruise and then year-round Caribbean sailings from PortMiami featuring some of the most beautiful and popular destinations in the region.”
