Fire not expected to affect Norwegian Joy delivery

A fire over the weekend in the construction shed where the Norwegian Joy is being assembled should not impact the delivery of the ship next spring, a spokesman for the Meyer Werft shipyard said.

The blaze took the yard’s fire brigade about 30 minutes to extinguish, spokesman Peter Hackmann said.

“Lucky us, it was no big deal. Damage is very limited,” Hackmann said.

The 3,900-passenger Norwegian Joy is the next Breakaway Plus ship to be delivered to Norwegian. It is being designed for use in China.

Quads for Quantum: Royal Caribbean orders fourth ship in the class

Royal Caribbean ordered a fourth Quantum-class vessel from the Meyer Werft shipyard for delivery in 2019.

The cruise line recently announced that a third Quantum ship, Ovation of the Seas, would debut in China in 2017.

Royal have not yet released the name of the new Ship, but they still have two registered names, Passion of the Seas and Pulse of the Seas, which one do you think?

The 4,180-passenger ships have a sky-diving simulator, bumper cars and a crane-powered observation gondola.

Royal Caribbean did not disclose the cost but said that based on current ship orders, its projected capital spending for 2019 would be $1.3 billion.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. said its projected capacity increase in 2019 would be 6.5% across all of its brands.

Construction starts on Star Cruises megaship

Star Cruises has cut the first steel for a 4,500-passenger ship scheduled for delivery in the fall of 2016.

The unnamed ship, and a similar one due to enter service in fall 2017, will sail in Asia.

The Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, is building the vessels, which will be the largest by far in the Star Cruises fleet at 151,000 gross tons. Today, the line’s largest ship is the SuperStar Virgo, at 75,000 gross tons and capacity for about 2,000 passengers.

“The delivery of these two newly commissioned mega cruise ships will enable us to continue to strengthen and further enhance our competitiveness across our key source markets,” said Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, CEO  of Genting Hong Kong, the company that owns Star Cruises.

One of ship’s unique features will be a “street night market” with hawker stalls serving delicacies from various Asian countries. The megaship also will have a theater and a water park with slides.
