Regent Seven Seas Cruises orders fifth ship

Regent Seven Seas Cruises said it has ordered a version of its 750-passenger Seven Seas Explorer, which will add a fifth ship to its fleet.  

The line said it reached an agreement with the Italian shipyard Fincantieri to deliver the ship in 2020 at a price of about $480 million.

The Seven Seas Explorer, due in July, has had record-breaking pre-delivery sales.

“We expect that the positive impact on earnings and impressive return on investment from Seven Seas Explorer will be significant. and that her sister vessel will make a similar contribution,” said Frank Del Rio, president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, Regent’s parent company.

Regent’s three other ships are Seven Seas Voyager, Navigator and Mariner.

Several luxury cruise lines have new ships on order, including Seabourn (launching the Seabourn Encore at the end of the year), Silversea Cruises (gaining the Silver Muse next year), and Crystal Cruises (building a trio of ships for delivery starting in 2018). 

Fincantieri starts construction of ultra-luxury cruise ship for Carnival Corporation

The keel laying ceremony of “Seabourn Encore”, the first of two ultra-luxury cruise ships that Fincantieri will build for Seabourn, brand of Carnival Corporation, was held today at the Marghera shipyard.
“Seabourn Encore”, due to join the Seabourn’s fleet at the end of 2016, will be built according to the standards and technical solutions that make Seabourn one of the most prestigious brands in the ultra-luxury segment and will continue the fleet’s modernization that began in 2009.

The all-suite ship will be approximately 41,700 gross tons, 210 metres long and 28 metres wide and will be able to reach a cruising speed of 18.6 knots. It will carry up to just 600 guests, based on double occupancy. Every suite will feature a private veranda.

Safety will be one of this ship’s major strong points. It will be built using the very latest technologies, whose standards will exceed the requirements of the relevant legislation. Fuel consumption will be significantly reduced by optimizing the ship’s hydrodynamics.

Fincantieri has built 70 cruise ships since 1990 and other 14 ships are currently being designed or built in the Group’s yards.

Seabourn forms culinary partnership with Thomas Keller

Seabourn has partnered with Michelin-starred chef Thomas Keller, who will create menu items for the Odyssey, Sojourn and Quest cruise ships beginning in early fall.

Also, Seabourn and Keller will collaborate on a restaurant that will debut on the Seabourn Quest next year before being expanded to the rest of the fleet, including the new Seabourn Encore, which is due to enter service in late 2016.

Keller has been awarded three Michelin stars for two of his restaurants: The French Laundry in Yountville, Calif., and Per Se in New York. Another restaurant in Yountville, Bouchon, has received one star.

Keller has also authored five cookbooks and is publisher of Finesse Magazine.

“There is really no chef more accomplished or held in higher esteem than Chef Keller, and we are both honored and delighted to have a restaurateur of his stature take our onboard culinary offerings to an even higher level,” said Seabourn President Richard Meadows. “His culinary talent and sophisticated cuisine are beyond compare and the perfect match for our guests.
