Robbie Williams Headlines Mein Schiff Relax Christening in Málaga

TUI announced in a press release that the Mein Schiff Relax was christened on April 9, 2025, in the port of Málaga. The event was attended by more than 12,000 guests.

Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises, opened the official christening show with presenter Judith Rakers, who hosted the evening.

According to the company, the occasion was the first to include three of its ships and a christening in its history: Robbie Williams performed for guests onboard the Mein Schiff 5, Mein Schiff 7 and Mein Schiff Relax, as well as for other visitors, in a concert held for the christening of the ship.

Williams said: “The Mein Schiff Relax embodies the perfect blend of relaxation and diversity; she is truly an incredible ship. I loved performing at the christening ceremony in this stunning setting in the old town of Málaga.”

“The christening of Mein Schiff Relax is the beginning of a new era for TUI Cruises and another milestone in our success story. Mein Schiff Relax offers numerous innovations that make it unique. And that’s why it was important to us to welcome this new feel-good ship to the fleet in a special way,” said Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises.

The christening event included musical highlights such as local artists Mitchy and André Katawazi and MOKABY and performances by Giovanni Zarrella and Robbie Williams.

According to the press release, the staging culminated with the smashing of the champagne bottle, which was initiated by Giuliana Rizzo, godmother and spa and sports manager of Mein Schiff Relax.

The Mein Schiff Relax will offer seven- to 10-day cruises from/to Palma/Mallorca this summer. Highlights include Italian cities such as Rome, La Spezia and Naples; the Spanish mainland; and coastal cities Valencia, Barcelona, Málaga and Cádiz.

The ship will also sail to Marseille or Ajaccio in France, Lisbon in Portugal, and Sardinia or Sicily in Italy. Highlights include the port city of Tangier and an overnight stay in the port of Palma on selected routes.

Cruise Orderbook Update: Two Ships Delivered in 40k Berth Year

Two large cruise ships were recently delivered as the Norwegian Aqua and the MSC World America were handed over to Norwegian Cruise Line and MSC Cruises.

According to the latest edition of the cruise ship orderbook by Cruise Industry News, the vessels are part of a lineup of 15 ships that are scheduled to enter service for various brands this year.

The vessels will add roughly 40,000 berths to the cruise industry as part of a $12.1 billion investment.

After being built by Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard, the Aqua was delivered to Norwegian Cruise Line on Mar. 13, 2025.

According to CIN’s independent research, the 3,570-guest ship is one of 13 that will enter service for Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings by 2036.

Set to be built by the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, the vessels will add over 40,000 berths to the company’s three brands.

The MSC World America was delivered to MSC Cruises by the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard on Mar. 27, 2025.

As the second ship in MSC’s World Class series, the 205,800-ton vessel will increase the company’s berth count by 5,400.

According to Cruise Industry News data, MSC is set to add roughly 20,000 berths to its fleet by 2028. The company’s orderbook includes two World Class vessels and a series of luxury vessels for Explora Journeys.

The Norwegian Aqua and the MSC World America follow the Mein Schiff Relax, which was delivered to TUI Cruises in February.

Other ships set to enter service in 2025 include the Asuka III, which is expected to be delivered to Japan-based Asuka Cruise in the coming weeks.

Royal Caribbean is also taking delivery of an additional Icon-class ship during the second quarter, as the Star of the Seas is being delivered by the Meyer Turku shipyard.

Additional vessels being delivered in the coming months include the new Star Princess, the Viking Vesta, the Celebrity Xcel, and the Disney Adventure.

Fincantieri Delivers Mein Schiff Relax in Monfalcone

Fincantieri has delivered the new Mein Schiff Relax to TUI Cruises, with the ship being handed over on Friday in Monfalcone.

Fincantieri said in a press release that the vessel is the first of two InTUltion class new concept cruise ships that are dual fuel powered (Liquid Natural Gas and Marine Gas Oil) that Fincantieri is building for TUI Cruises. The sister ship will set sail in mid-2026.

According to the press release, the Italian Minister for Relations with Parliament, Luca Ciriani, attended the ceremony, welcomed by Biagio Mazzotta, and Pierroberto Folgiero, chairman, CEO and managing director of Fincantieri.

The event was also attended by Luigi Matarazzo, general manager of the Fincantieri Merchant Ships Division, as well as Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises, Frank Kuhlmann, chief financial officer of TUI Cruises and Captain Tom Roth.

The company said that this unit forms the backbone of TUI Cruises’ new fleet, based on a first-in-class project developed by Fincantieri.

The project focuses on energy efficiency and aims to reduce operational consumption and minimize environmental impact in compliance with the latest regulations. According to Fincantieri, the ship’s ability to use low-emission fuels marks a step towards climate-neutral cruising.

The ship also features catalytic converters meeting Euro 6 standards, a generative turbine using the residual heat from the diesel generators and an electrical shore-power connection. This ensures almost emission-free operations while in port (about 40 per cent of operating time).

The ship also has a waste treatment system that can transform organic materials into recyclable components.
