Norwegian adds cruise tours in South America

Norwegian Cruise Line said it has developed three cruise tours for guests booking its South America itineraries on Norwegian Sun.

One of the cruise tours includes three days pre- or post-cruise in Buenos Aires and includes a tango lesson from professional dancers. A second adds a two-day eco-tour in the region of Iguazu Falls, as well as a visit to a working ranch.

The third tour includes a three-day adventure on Easter Island and two days in Santiago, Chile.

Norwegian Sun will cruise through South America from November 21, 2015, through April 9, 2016, sailing alternating eastbound and westbound 14-day voyages between Santiago and Buenos Aires.

Norwegian Star cruise canceled to fix ship

Norwegian Cruise Line has canceled a Panama Canal cruise scheduled to depart Los Angeles on April 12 because of a problem with the ship’s ABB-manufactured Azipod propulsion.

In a statement, the cruise line said the Norwegian Star would undergo repairs from April 21 to 26. The Star had just emerged in late March from a scheduled drydock in which it received a variety of upgrades. See report from drydock.

Guests booked on the 15-day cruise will receive a full refund as well as a 50% future cruise credit.

Norwegian said the next cruise on the ship is scheduled to depart Miami on April 27.

Norwegian Cruise Line offers weddings at sea

Norwegian Cruise Line this month will offer legal weddings at sea (see below what’s included) for the first time, on the Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway and on the Norwegian Escape when the ship launches this fall.

The onboard ceremonies will be performed by the ship’s captain, with the couple’s marriage license issued by the Bahamas.

The line’s wedding package includes a bridal bouquet and matching boutonniere, Champagne toast and wedding cake. A wedding coordinator will assist couples during the planning process.

In addition to weddings at sea, Norwegian offers destination weddings at ports of call and embarkation ports.

Other cruise lines that do weddings at sea include Celebrity, Cunard, Royal Caribbean and Princess.
